The art of sport

Roberts, I. (2003) The art of sport: the best of reuters sport photography. Great Britain: Reuters.

This book is packed full of iconic sports images, some that are very familiar, some that are not. But all of them seem to have captured two things one is'that moment' in a particular match/race/fight/ that everybody remembers, the one moment that even if not captured would never be forgotten or that one thing that may have been missed if it not have been for the camera.
for example:

Image by Kai Pfaffenbach:  "David Seaman, agonising over the mistake that may have cost England their World Cup quarter final against Brazil, left the pitch in tears after mis judging a Ronaldhino free kick."
For the english that watch football, this i feel is a very familiar sight. everybody remembers how David Seaman kicked himself over conceding that goal.

Image by Peter Kujundzic: "Two heads, two arms, two bodies, three legs, four shoes" Two Into One.
This image is one that i feel is something that could only really be seen properly thanks to a camera and a photographer with a good eye and a good finger for the 'decisive moment'.

I feel that both types of images make good for sports photography. It would be nice when i have completed my phonebook to think i have achieved both types of photo.
